This smoothie is the perfect way to start your morning. I used to make this all the time, but then winter crept in and it was hard enough to drink my usual morning green smoothie, let alone this one as well.
I always start my day by drinking 1 Litre (1 quart) of water. Sometimes I get real crazy and add the juice of a lemon. Sometimes this is really hard to do. The first few days of starting this are tough. And its hard to do on really cold winter mornings. I don’t push myself to drink it all if I can’t. The first week of doing this actually made me feel really sick, like a detox. But, that’s how you can tell it’s doing something!
I think this smoothie is going to replace my morning 1 Litre. My stomach felt GREAT after it
.
- 3 cups water
- Juice of 1 lemon
- 1 inch piece of ginger
- 4 inch piece of cucumber
- ¼ cup mint
- 1-2 handfuls ice
- Add 1 cup of water and the lemon juice, ginger, cucumber and mint to the blender (I use a Vitamix). Blend.
- Add last 2 cups of water and ice and blend again.
- I like to add some ice and extra mint leaves to my glass.

Looks nice and refreshing!
Thanks Lisa Marie, it really is!
That looks very tempting and healthy, shae. My husband has studied from Nsw university so I got the chance to live in Australia for some time after marriage. Sadly he was trasferred to singapore soon. Though that time was enough to fall in love with this beautiful country of yours.
Hi Nidhi, thanks
. This smoothie so perfect for spring weather which we are having here now. Australia is very beautiful! I feel very lucky to live here

I have a friend in Australia, she drinks a cup of hot lemon water every morning.
Hi Janice, thats also a really good way to wake up in the morning! Sometimes when I am in a rush, I just juice a lemon and add to a litre (4 cups) of cold water. Yum!

mint. how and where do i purchase mint?
Hi Carol, you should be able to get mint at any grocery or health food store, in the herb section. You could also get some seeds and grow your own in the garden or a pot. Hope this helps
Good morning Shae. I’m now on day 5and I have lost 5 pounds. The first day it was kind of hard but now I do look forward to having this drink in the morning; I find it to be very refreshing.
WOW! Thats amazing! I remember losing a few kg’s when I first started it too. I’m so glad to hear your enjoying it
what if i add a tablespoon of honey? will it have a different effect? thanks!
Hi Mitch, no that would be fine. You could even add a honey thats good for your stomach, like Manuka honey which would probably help too. Hope you enjoy it
love it,Thanks
How does this help your body?
Hi Alex, I am not a nutritionist, this is just my opinion. All of the ingredients are great for aiding digestion and cleansing the stomach, you can look them up. You can feel the difference after drinking it.
Adding this to my fav list.
I have also juiced cabbage as it’s very healing to the stomach.
This looks great! I have a lemonade with cayenne every morning to get in the fluids and antioxidants. Cayenne is very warming too.
Is there something i can use other then ginger
Turmeric would also work well, although I haven’t used it so I’m not sure how strong it would taste. Let me know how it goes!

I have ground ginger. Would that suffice?
Hi Sky, you could probably use a little ground ginger, although fresh is much better. You could also try it without the ginger, I’m sure that would be nice too
Yes i skipped the ginger. It’s delicious!
I thought it was going to be really thick for some reason. But to me it seems more like a juice. Very refreshing!
