Raw Cheese Sauce

Every healthy kitchen needs a good raw cheese sauce recipe. Something to put on wraps, dip veggies in and really take care of that cheese craving that we all get from time to time! I’m eating more and more raw foods, and am finding its really good to have some staple sauce and wraps recipes up my sleeve for easy meals.

I shared the incredible raw walnut taco meat recipe with you the other day (I hope you’ve had a chance to try it!), and now you have the raw cheese sauce recipe for a seriously awesome raw meal.

I keep this sauce truly raw by using raw onion to take care of that cheesy tang, instead of relying on nutritional yeast. I love nutritional yeast, but decided to leave it out of this recipe, since I use it in so many others! But you can definitely add nooch for an even cheesier flavour.

I’m typing this post with red stained hands, I’ve been pickling some beets. Oh, you should have seen my kitchen sink, it looked like I murdered someone! Nope, just some beets. Hopefully I’ll have that recipe to share with you soon!

Simple Raw Cheese Sauce (Vegan)
 
This easy raw cheese sauce has so many uses, my favourite being to use it in raw tacos.
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup cashews OR macadamias, soaked overnight & drained
  • 1 lemon, juiced
  • ¼ onion
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ¼ cup water (or more for desired consistency)
Method:
  1. Combine all ingredients in a high speed blender (I use a Vitamix) and blend until smooth.

  2. … Hi Shae … thank you very much for that fantastic tip on how to strip the chemicals & pesticides off fruit & vegetables … i’ve already used it … but i have two questions please … how deep do the chemicals & poisons go into the fruit & vegetables … & is the apple cider vinegar powerful enough to remove those chemicals … i want to juice & smoothy my greens … appreciate your opinion … thanks again … love & peace … God Bless …

    • Hi Dina, It depends on which fruit & veg we are talking about. For instance, root vegetables hold pesticides much more than other veggies, and you can’t wash that off – it grows within the veg. It would be a good idea to look up the Dirty Dozen & Clean Fifteen lists which will give you a good idea of the veggies you need to buy organic and which ones have the least pesticides. I try to buy organic where I can and still use the ACV wash on all my produce. I don’t know how much it removes, obviously it can’t remove the pesticides that are inside the skin of the veggies, but theres only so much you can do! Hope that helps x

  3. Hi there, i was just wondering how long the raw cheese sauce can be stored? I want to make some to go with your delish raw taco but its just little old me so ill no doubt have some left over. Any tips on storage? ❤️

    • Hi Jamie, it should keep well in the fridge for about a week, maybe even slightly longer. If it smells ok and has no mould it should be fine, but I wouldn’t think any longer than 2 weeks. I’m not sure how it would store in the freezer, you could give that a go though. Maybe just make half a batch and see how you go? It’s pretty damn good so you might find you eat it quicker than you think! :)
