Let me tell you a little bit about myself…


My name is Shae Cantrell


And I am on a journey to create glowing wellness + deep, soul-tingling happiness – for me and you.


At 21-years-young I was diagnosed with celiac disease.

I knew something was wrong when stomach pains, bloating and other fun gastro symptoms became the norm. I started having headaches, dizziness, constant tiredness, mental fogginess, memory problems, pains, numbness and more.

For years I spent hours in-and-out of doctors rooms getting tests, scans and invasive procedures trying to figure our what was wrong. I finally put the pieces together myself, and asked the doc to be tested for celiac. It came back positive. Finally, a diagnosis. An answer. Some hope.

While I thought the diagnosis was the end to all my problems, it was really only the beginning of my journey to health and wellbeing.

Cutting out gluten was not enough. My symptoms continued to get worse, my health continued to decline and my weight skyrocketed.

There was so much more to my health puzzle than just cutting out gluten. I had to heal the damage it had done to my body. It caused my liver to become overburdened, which then caused toxicity and edema. I continually found new things I was allergic to, including dairy, alcohol, quinoa and all grains. I have leaky gut and many vitamin deficiencies. It has taken me a long time to understand all the puzzle pieces – and I’m still figuring it out today.

Now, after two and a half years, my body is starting to heal. So long daily headaches. Fare-well crippling stomach aches. Au revoir mental fogginess. Goodbye numbness.

I’m feeling good. Not 100% yet. But after years of trying nearly every diet, supplement, superfood, or strategy out there for healing, I finally feel like I’m on the right path.

At the moment I am using a modified version of Gerson Therapy to heal. You can find out more about how I am using Gerson and my diet here.

I am here to help and encourage you to make healthier food choices, and show you that it’s not so hard after all. All it takes is a commitment to yourself to nourish your body and give it everything it needs to live a happier and healthier life.


… and so The Vedge was born



Celiac disease is seeing a huge increase – it’s now believed that 1 in 133 people have it. Most don’t even know that they have celiac, or it is misdiagnosed as something like IBS, meanwhile it is damaging their intestines.

Food allergies are also seeing a huge increase and many people are switching to plant-based, vegetarian or vegan diet because of the amazing benefits to their health, the planet and our animal friends.

When I was first diagnosed, finding recipes with ingredients I could actually eat and that tasted good was hard. I had so many failed meals, and it made it seem like eating this way forever was almost impossible if I couldn’t even enjoy one meal.

It forced me to get creative in the kitchen, and learn how to cook delicious gluten free + vegan food. And now you get to reap the benefits.

Food that is good for you doesn’t have to be complicated. Or a source of frustration or arguments. Or boring, weird or gross.

Meals should be so full of happiness, joy, and connection, with food that makes your taste buds do a little happy dance and lights you up from the inside out.

I want to help make all of these things easier, by giving you delicious recipes free of gluten, grains, dairy and all animal products, as well as healing and wellness tips to help you live the best life ever.

  5. I am pretty much just duplicating all the previous posts….THIS SITE IS AWESOME! I’ve been doing a candida cleanse along with avoiding many intolerances for just over a month. I’m always looking for new and tasty recipes to try (that aren’t boring and tasteless) and can not wait to try yours. They all sound so delicious and inspiring! Thank you for sharing your passion :) You are making it easy to be healthy!

  6. I love your blog Shae! I’m vegan, not gluten-free, but sometimes I just feel bleghh from all the stuff that’s in prepared food and want to just rid my diet of all gross procossed stuff! You’re blog has helped educate me on the risks of refined sugars and introduced me to new sugar substitues, and also helped me to understand the harmful long-term effects of chemical sugar-substitues like aspartame. I made your raw tacos, they rocked!

    I started on my Raw Vegan journey last Monday week (8/7/13) and even though I have had my ‘detoxing’ symptoms (headaches, dizziness etc) they are abating – and I know they will go for good soon, especially when I know that my previous ills are being addressed. I am really enjoying my new lifestyle and already found it cleansing. I am embracing this boots and all. So much so my husband started last Wednesday week. Even my son is enjoying this (although he is not fully raw like us). I thank you for you great website – this gives me even more inspiration to carry on and I will have to try your brownies recipe on the weekend.

  8. It’s always a pleasure to find like minded individuals. I have a child in highschool where there is a limited amount of time to eat. I need ideas on high calorie meals that can be consumed in 30 minutes or less.

    • Hi Mihirah, hmm yeah thats a tough one, I have been trying to think of recipes for Ash to take to work as well. Let me think about it and see what I can come up with!

  10. Thank you so much for your blog. I have many food sensitivities with a lg part of them being grains. Amazingly though I am not Celiac. My oldest daughter and her husband are both vegan and she has encouraged me to try it. I have only been on the diet for 2 weeks, but I must say I really do not miss the animal products at all..I have enjoyed your blog and the recipies you have posted. Can`t wait for your next post. Would like to hear about more of your journey. What was it like the first few months on the vegan and celiac diets. What was the first positive thing you noticed.. Thanks again!!!!!
